Lately, I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with work and spending a lot of time in front of my computer. With having a full time IT job that requires me to be on call to deal with any issues, as well as teaching social media management and WordPress at night and having some private client work it isn’t any wonder that I have been feeling this way.
To try to live a more healthy lifestyle I am slowly making some changes and one of those is to take time out from sitting in front of my computer, even though I see some of the things I do here as a hobby, and do something completely different to exercise another creative part of my brain.
So, recently I started attending art classes one day a week for two hours. I have not done any art since I was in high school which sadly to say is almost 30 years ago.
I have always had a creative side but have used this in my work as a web developer and trainer. But sitting down to paint and colour in has been cathartic and has opened my eyes to other possibilities of how I can spend my time.
The classes I attend have only either had myself or one other person and are run out of a friends house here in Bundeena. Over the past few weeks, I have worked with several different mediums and learnt about texture, colour and the different materials painters use, of which I had no idea. I have to say I was pretty impressed with what vodka could do to my painting 🙂
Sometimes we need to take some time out and spend it doing something completely out of our comfort zone. It has done wonders for my stress levels, and I have a new found hobby that I never knew I could enjoy as much as I have.
Following are some images of the swatches and paintings I have experimented with over the last three weeks. It is just a start but who knows where this could take me.
Have you recently found a hobby that has inspired you outside of your work? Or already have a hobby that is completely unrelated to your role that you love taking time out to spend on? I would love to hear about it in the comments below.
